Class Information
Paraprofessionals, also known as teacher assistants, teacher aides or para-educators, are educational workers who are not licensed to teach but who perform teaching-related tasks in support of certified educational professionals. They usually work alongside fully licensed lead teachers, but they also sometimes work more independently. They work in a variety of educational environments, though many of them can be found in elementary schools.
If you want to work in the field of education or you love working with children, a job as a paraprofessional may be a good place to start. This career allows you to supervise students as they do learning activities under the direction of the lead teacher.
Elkhart Community Education is offering a preparatory class to help you prepare for the Indiana ParaPro Certification. The class will also target educational terminology, teaching strategies and team building skills. The ParaPro Assessment is a general aptitude test that is required in Indiana for paraprofessional certification. It also offers school districts an objective assessment of your foundation of knowledge and skills.
